The Varghese House by M.E. Contracting

The Varghese House by M.E. Contracting
M. E. Contracting is a Canadian landscaping company that recently completed its Varghese House project in Toronto, Ontario. The job of the owner of the property was to bring together the different elements of the exterior of the house in a way that resulted in a whole. They made the most of the space available around the backyard pool at Varghese House. Ultimately, the project became a real backyard paradise.

Since Nortown, Toronto, is not known for its extravagantly large properties, we had to make sure that the space for this Vista project at the pool was used optimally. In this landscape transformation, we had the total freedom to transform the space and redesign it from scratch. At the end of the day, this resulted in one of the most rewarding and visually stunning projects we have completed so far.

Our main goal was, as specified by the customer, to bring the various new elements harmoniously and uninterrupted in the outdoor area of the house. In other words, the new pool, the terrace, the kitchenette and the front yard could not stand on the feet of the other, so to speak. For each element of the room, we had to make sure everyone had the same aesthetic theme.

After completing the project, we were able to add tremendous value to this property within a short time. For this purpose, we have revised four aspects of the outdoor living space: the pool, the walk-in patio, the year-round outdoor kitchen and dining area, as well as the front yard and the garden.

Initially, we focused on developing a lane pool that looked aesthetically pleasing but was also functional for practice purposes. To achieve this goal, we have made sure that the pool takes up as much space in the longitudinal direction as possible and remains narrow in width. For a chic touch, we have added several luxurious water features.

In the pool lead a long stone staircase, which also serves as a bench in the pool. On the opposite side, miniature waterfall elements replace the space of traditional pool jets. Next to each waterfall is a soft LED light that glows approximately at the water level to provide unrestricted visibility within the water regardless of the time of day.

Outside the pool we have added new white slates in a perfect checkerboard pattern. Fresh grass was laid between each tile to give the area a rustic look. Between the pool and the sliding glass doors that lead into the basement, a small covered kitchenette and a small informal sitting area and an artificial fireplace were installed. This kitchen and dining area are separated from the poolside lounge by glass partitions.

A lighted staircase leads from the pool to the upper sitting area with two lounge chairs and a covered stainless steel grill. This provides additional seating and dining areas for guests when the guests are finished or in the backyard barbecues take place in the summer, and also provides a comfortable entrance from the living room and the kitchen downstairs.

Finally, a beautiful white stone path leads through the house side in the front yard. Freshly planted shrubs and plants line the front garden, which enhances the appeal of the house on the curb of the apartment while providing a clear, undisturbed view of the impressive entrance with two pillars of the house.

Home and Garden Tweaks

Home and Garden Tweaks
As winter approaches, it is helpful to think about what our homes look like after spending another year in them. While we can add delightful decorative elements such as a winter wreath to make the front door more comfortable for visitors, there are also other minor changes that need to be considered.

Use the garden more often in landscaping
Many gardens reflect the love of the creativity of their owners. Depending on how much space is available, the design of separate sections of the garden by landscaping allows for greater individual use of the individual areas. Covered dining areas with stonemasonry and delicate trails to run on, even when the lawn is muddy due to recent rain, add to its usefulness. Plants in designated areas shorten garden time while giving you the pleasure of seeing them grow and blossom.

Do not forget to include a few updated ideas for outdoor furniture. It is not always necessary to have a single seating area. Several seating areas in the garden allow you to capture the sun at different times of the day or take a new perspective.

Make the family room comfortable
Especially in winter it is great when the home feels comfortable regardless of its overall size. It's wonderful to get lost in a room where you can let your imagination run wild, come up with new ideas, or simply enjoy a good book by the fireplace.

If your sofa is not as comfortable as you would like, you should make a throw blanket for the sofa or wrap the occupants when the wind blows outside. Some extra pillows are great for supporting the head when you're in relaxed mode and looking up at the ceiling. Do not forget your feet. If you do not have a dog that keeps your feet warm, a soft carpet might make the wood floor under your feet feel less cold.

Clean up the bathroom
The love of the bathroom brings out the best points. For example, over time, the mortar will pick up dirt and grime that will change color to an unattractive shade of gray. This can be restored to its original state with a detergent. A homemade remedy is also available.

Mixing baking soda with some Epsom salts, soap, and water creates a solution that cleans mortar without damaging it. Manual cleaning of individual areas with an old toothbrush takes time but is very effective. It's a great little weekend when there is not much left to do.

Taking care of the floor tiles will also produce good results if you invest a little more time in the corners and around the bathrooms. If you spend half an hour working on areas that are not receiving much attention, the bathroom will be restored to a good standard.

Not every house and garden change must be significant. Sometimes it's the little things that have the biggest impact.
